My client's parent company is a multi- billion dollar global automotive supplier. They have over 100,000 employees at 300
manufacturing facilities worldwide. They manufacture automotive parts supplied to primarily: General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler. Outside of the Big 3, they also supply to companies like Volkswagen, BMW, Toyota, etc.
Plant Info: - Roughly 800 employees with over $200 million in sales. (Mold, Paint and Assembly Operations.)- 3 shift operations. Main customers are GM, Honda, and Chrysler. Plant is located in Newaygo, Michigan that's about 30 miles from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Products: range from interior and exterior plastic parts, to misc. electronic / mechanical parts. They are a plastic injection molding company so they design it, mold it, paint it, assemble it and then ship it to the customer. Manufacturing Engineer Primary role will be launching new products. (Need experience with up front Design for Assembly). Preferably someone with plastic injection molding experience and the assembly process because you will be sitting in on design meetings. Experience with electronics, actuators, pneumatics will also be ideal. You will be doing RFQ's, then oversee the tool shop building the equipment, run off the equipment, mature it, and then launch and transition it into production. You will have to determine the type of line that is needs to be built based on the volume of the program; so you will decide how many people, pieces of equipment, lines, etc. will he need to cover customer demand. (You would be working with the Tool Shops that already have our standards.) Once a robust production line is set up that will hit the metrics you will then hand it off to the Operations ME's and let them operate the line.
The ideal candidate will be self-driven and have experience working with tool shops to build and design assembly equipment. You will have new product launch experience (Honda is ideal) in an automotive plastic injection plant. Heavy experience with automated mistake proofing. Assembly equipment consists of PLC driven electric and pneumatically powered stations. Typical assembly processes are heat staking, screw driving, glass press, tape applications, and end of line testers. All equipment is very poka yoke intensive with items like cameras, color sensors, proximity switches and measuring devices. We need a person who knows how to create standardized work for new assembly processes.

SPECIFICATIONS:

years Manufacturing Engineering / Process Engineering experience. (Automotive Plastics Tier 1 in an assembly driven manufacturing plant preferred)
Ancillary Industries will be considered provided the Assembly and Plastics expertise are there.
Experience working with tool shops to build and design assembly equipment.
Machine design and/or equipment engineering expertise. (RFQ - DOE expertise).
Part Design and Assembly Equipment Design expertise. (Tooling, Assembly machines, etc.)
New product launch experience. (Honda is a plus.)
Lean Manufacturing - Continuous Improvement, Six Sigma, Kiazen, etc.
Multi-tasking skills - Able to wear multiple hats and work well under pressure
Excellent problem solving skills.
Experience writing SOP's and creating standardized work for new assembly processes.
Leadership exp. Self-motivated/good written and verbal communication skills.
Project / Program Mgt. expertise - must be able to lead several large and complex projects simultaneously.
BS Degree (IE, ME, or the like.) Degree is a plus, but not a must.

SALARY: $70-$85K depending on experience
Bonus at 5-10% of Base.
